Settled

We're painting the porch columns brick red and leaving the trim white. If it looks too stark, we'll begin considering trim colors. No sense in making more work or worry than required. However, any suggestions are always appreciated-- something may revolutionize the whole process for us unexpectedly!

Good luck with the search for the right brick red! I vote for stalking that house down the street. :)

Thanks! We just decided that really it's too hard to judge those kinds of nuance in a photoshopped snap.

I think they're still trying to sell the place, so perhaps they'll be generous with their formula!!

I think its a good choice. I'm a fan of stark contrast trims -- and as you allude to, you can always change it if it doesn't work out.

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

The nice thing about paint is that, while it may be tedious, it's not permanent!

Since you aren't painting the whole house it is a quick improvement to curb appeal to just do the columns. I think it will look good and no need to stress over it. Here is great tool we designers use for color harmonies. You can even search bungalow and it'll pull up some results. If your favorite thing is chile peppers you can type that in and it will pull up some great color harmonies.
