Post-summer rain is just so pretty. The drive to work this morning:
I mean, I don't mind the heat; once you pass 100, 102, it all starts to feel the same. But high 80s is my ideal, and Adam is not nearly so fond of this season as I am. I'm hopeful that the cooler temps mean we'll get some outside work done on the porch; like, I don't know, maybe give it a ceiling and some screen, get the porch swing up. Fingers crossed!
Now, while thinking about this post, my brain went on a tangent. I thought of Shel Silverstein's Unicorn Song:
A long time ago, when the Earth was greenThen I came across something I bought the other day. The special edition reissue of The Last Unicorn.
There was more kinds of animals than you've ever seen
They'd run around free while the Earth was being born
And the loveliest of all was the unicorn
There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
The loveliest of all was the unicorn
The Lord seen some sinning and it gave Him pain
And He says, "Stand back, I'm going to make it rain"
He says, "Hey Noah, I'll tell you what to do
Build me a floating zoo,
and take some of those...
Green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
Don't you forget My unicorns
Old Noah was there to answer the call
He finished up making the ark just as the rain started to fall
He marched the animals two by two
And he called out as they came through
Hey Lord,
I've got green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but Lord, I'm so forlorn
I just can't find no unicorns"
And Noah looked out through the driving rain
Them unicorns were hiding, playing silly games
Kicking and splashing while the rain was falling
Oh, them silly unicorns
There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Noah cried, "Close the door because the rain is falling
And we just can't wait for no unicorns"
The ark started moving, it drifted with the tide
The unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried
And the waters came down and sort of floated them away
That's why you never see unicorns to this very day
You'll see green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
You're never gonna see no unicorns
I think this movie is how I learned to draw horses. They all had impossibly long legs and lashes. Anyway,
Happy Friday!
**See? Despite their side effects, the antibiotics and subsequent lack of infection have raised my spirits considerably!

I am carefully wiping away the single tear . . . so much to absorb in a single post! :)~
Such a beautiful drive to work *envious*
Love Shel Silverstein
The Last Unicorn . . . sob. I haven't thought about that movie in forever!
Enjoy the weather. We had a huge storm again in Hotlanta yesterday the cooled things down considerably.
We must have received the same rain you got and it was indeed a blessing. I am still not use to the over 100 degree weather that you all experience out here in "God's country."
Such a great post! I love the song "The Unicorn" and I really like the band America. I had never heard the song "The Last Unicorn" much less seen the movie.
Just wanted to stop in and see how things were going . . . we are in the heat crunch as well and Angie is really wanting the new screened in breakfast room completed.
Good Luck!
Bungalow-- The movie's out on DVD, at Sam's club, no less. I love it-- such a blast form the past! If I could just find a copy of The Point, then my cartoon nostalgia might be complete.
Melinda-- I guess you guys got some of this craziness that passed through this weekend, huh? It's soo much cooler now! I'd like to tell you that you'll get used to the heat-- it'll certainly become less shocking-- but I don't know anyone who didn't grow up in it that actually LIKES it!
Sandy-- America did the soundtrack to the whole movie, and the animation house that made it is the same one that did The Hobbit in the early 80's.
Mike-- glad to see some posts crop up on your blog lately! Trust me, I feel Angie's pain. There are so many things that are more "important" that need finishing, but the porch has managed to creep its way to the top of my list.
